Singapore Night Skyline Windows 7 Theme is dedicated to magnificent dazzling night skyline of Singapore. Singapore is located in the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, 137 kilometres (85 mi) north of the equator. The Southeast Asian island nation comprised of 63 islands and is separated from Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to its north and from Indonesia’s Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait to its south. Though there were local empires inhabiting it since the 2nd century A.D., modern Singapore was founded by Sir Stamford Raffles as a trading post of the East India Company in 1819. The British obtained sovereignty over the island in 1824 and Singapore became one of the British Straits Settlements in 1826. Occupied by the Japanese during World War II, Singapore declared independence from the United Kingdom, uniting with other former British territories to form Malaysia in 1963, although it was separated from Malaysia two years later. Since then, it has had a massive increase in wealth, and is one of the “Four Asian Tigers”. Singapore is the world’s fourth-leading financial center, and its port is one of the five busiest ports in the world. In terms of purchasing power parity, Singapore has the third-highest per capita income in the world. Over 5 million people inhabit the islands with majority of Chinese origin while Malays and Indians forming significant minorities. More than 11 million people visit Singapore every year and it has the world’s third highest population density with 7,543 persons per square kilometer. Due to its high population density, Singapore has also become a vertical island city-state and is riddled with skyscrapers which are lighted up every night. The city and its landmarks and tourist attractions are lighted up every night which makes the whole city and skyline look amazing at night. In this theme, we have included 10 such amazing backgrounds of the Singapore night skyline. These include night backgrounds of the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore River, Singapore Flyer, Orchard Road, The Merlion, The Helix Bridge, Central Business District and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay.
