Publisher's Description: |
Kubuntu Netbook Edition is a new Kubuntu flavour optimised for netbook computers. These computers generally have screens smaller then 10 inches, less processing power, no CD/DVD drive and less memory & disk space than traditional laptops. Kubuntu Netbook Edition was first released with Kubuntu 9.10 and is a technology preview.
Overview
Kubuntu Netbook Edition uses the Plasma Netbook shell. This features two desktop activities, one for launching applications and one for using Plasma Widgets. There is a retracting panel at the top for the system tray. Switching applications is done with a, currently incomplete, widget in the top left corner.
Architectures
Current netbooks come with an Intel i386 processor, so our main Kubuntu Netbook Edition image is for these processors.
Netbooks using ARM processors will soon be available, there is a Kubuntu Netbook Edition image for testing with ARM too, it is highly experimental but has been shown to run successfully.
Download and Installing
The image is intended for a USB disk. USB Creator is installed as part of Kubuntu 9.10, there is also a version available for install from Kubuntu 9.04.
It will not burn to a CD but you could burn it to a DVD to install on a conventional desktop computer.
