Dell has released the source code for its Streak Android OS. The Streak is a 5 inch Android Tablet PC or smartphone.

Google Android is built on open source software and uses a version of the Linux kernel at its core. Some of souces of the OS is kept closed by Google. It tends to release them as open source upon launch, allowing smartphone makers and wireless carriers to make core changes to the operating system to meet their needs.

By making the source code available Dell is expecting a lot of technically knowledgeable customers to make modifications to these devices.
